YouTube Shorts safe zone template

Google's vertical ad safe zone and the templates floating around YouTube do not match. This page gives you both as a transparent 1080×1920 PNG, with the mode written on the image.

Official: 288 top, 672 bottom, 48 left, 192 right. Measured: 380 top and 380 bottom, sides omitted because the source we recorded did not publish them. Use official if you are cutting to Google's diagram. Use measured if you have been burned by the organic buttons sitting lower than the ad guide.

Drop a clip

MP4, MOV, WebM, or a thumbnail. Duration, resolution, aspect, fps, codec, and file size are read here. Nothing is uploaded.

What to do with it

  • The right 192 px is the Shorts button column in the official template. Do not park a facecam there.
  • The bottom 672 px is shared, roughly, with the Reels ads guide. A caption that clears Shorts' bottom often still fails TikTok's official 660 only by a hair, and fails nothing if you designed for the combined zone.
  • Square videos are valid Shorts. The template is still 9:16, because that is the player.
  • Generate the PNG after you pick the mode. The download uses whatever the toggle is set to.

YouTube Shorts specs

A Short is square or vertical and at most 3 minutes. Google's ad safe zone (288 / 672 / 48 / 192) is stricter than most organic templates.

Official safe zone, 1080×1920

288 top / 672 bottom / 48 left / 192 right

Taken from Google's vertical ad safe-zone image, also cited by https://www.socialync.io/tools/safe-zones. These margins are for ads. The organic Shorts player is not the same picture.

Measured safe zone, 1080×1920

380 top / 380 bottom / 0 left / 0 right

CheckSafe.Zone lists Shorts top and bottom at 380 px, which disagrees with Google's 288 / 672 ad image. Side insets were not recorded from that page, so measured mode does not invent them.

Questions

Where does the 288/672 number come from?

Google's vertical ad safe-zone image, documented at support.google.com/google-ads/answer/13547298 and cited by Socialync. Verified 19 October 2026. Confidence is cited, because it is an ads image rather than a sentence in YouTube Help.

Why does another site say 380?

Because they measured or copied a different player. CheckSafe.Zone is the source recorded for that pair of numbers. Both are in the toggle so you can see the disagreement instead of picking a side quietly.

Can I use this PNG in OBS?

Yes. Add it as an image source in a 1080×1920 scene and hide it when you record, or keep a copy of the scene without it.
